There are many poor and needy families who are genuinely in need of support for their children as they are not able to fully look after their children and provide them with a basic minimum level of health, nutrition and education. Most of the parents are jobless. However, most of them try to make a living by selling eatables on the road to the tourists and passersby.
The Tibetan Welfare Office tries to find sponsors for the most needy and deserving in the community. Currently, it is assisting children through this programme. There are still 40 destitute children who need support for their education, and basic needs. Each sponsor will receive yearly academic reports on the progress of the student they have provided an education, along with photographs of the child. The sponsor can also personally write to their child if wishes. Sponsoring the education of child is only 30 US dollars a month (a yearly 360 US dollars). As soon as the office receives a sponsor’s generous donation, an official receipt will be immediately forward to the sponsors, and if requested, more information about the children. To those interested in sponsoring, we suggest you to first contact the Tibetan Welfare Office before responding to requests from individuals or families in the community so that the proper and careful screening could be done regarding the child’s background. |
